Subjects are granted the official visa

According to Article 9 of the Law on Entry and Exit of Vietnamese Citizens 2019, subjects eligible for official passports include:

1. Cadres and civil servants according to the law on cadres and civil servants.

2. Officials of public service units, including:

• Heads and deputies of heads of public service units; people holding the positions of heads and deputy heads of organizations constituting public service units under the Politburo, the Secretariat, the National Assembly Standing Committee, and the Government;
• Heads and deputies of heads of public service units; People holding the positions of heads and deputy heads of organizations constituting public service units under the Committees and equivalent agencies of the Party Central Committee, the President’s Office, the National Assembly Office, the State Audit, and the Court Supreme People’s Procuracy, the Supreme People’s Procuracy, ministries, ministerial-level agencies, Government agencies, and other agencies established by the Government or the Prime Minister; Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and central agencies of socio-political organizations;
• Heads and deputies of heads of public service units; people holding positions of heads and deputy heads of organizations constituting public service units under the General Department, Department and equivalent positions under Ministries and ministerial-level agencies; Provincial Party Committee, City Party Committee of centrally run cities; Provincial People’s Committee; Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and provincial socio-political organizations;
• Heads of public service units under the District Party Committee, District Party Committee, Town Party Committee, City Party Committee under the Provincial Party Committee, and City Party Committee under central authority; specialized agencies under the Provincial People’s Committee and District People’s Committee;
• People holding job positions associated with state management tasks in public service units are assigned to perform state management tasks.

3. Officers, professional soldiers in the People’s Army, People’s Police, people doing cipher work in cipher organizations.

4. Employees of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad, state news and press reporters residing abroad.

5. Spouses and children under 18 years old of the above-mentioned person when accompanying or visiting during the working term.

6. In addition, in necessary cases, based on the requirements and nature of the trip, the Minister of Foreign Affairs may consider issuing official passports to other subjects according to the direction of the Prime Minister or the request of the Prime Minister. competent authorities in Article 11 of the Law on Entry and Exit of Vietnamese Citizens 2019 for those who do not fall into the above cases.

When do I need to apply for an official visa?

Vietnamese citizens need to apply for an official visa when they meet the conditions specified in Article 10 of the Law on Entry and Exit of Vietnamese Citizens 2019, specifically as follows:

1. Subject to being issued an official passport according to the provisions of Article 9 of the Law on Entry and Exit of Vietnamese Citizens 2019.
