Prepare documents

According to the provisions of Article 19c of Decree 74/2018/ND-CP and Article 6 of Circular 10/2020/TT-BKHCN, barcode registration documents include:

New documents include:

• Registration application according to form 12 issued with the appendix to this Decree;
• Copy of Business Registration Certificate, copy of Investment Registration Certificate or Establishment Decision (for public service units);
• Original Certificate (except in case of loss).

Registration procedures

According to the provisions of Article 19c of Decree 74/2018/ND-CP, procedures for registering new product barcodes are as follows

Step 1: Submit application

Submit your application at GS1 Vietnam through one of the following methods:

• Submit directly: Bring the original for comparison
• Submitted by post: must submit a certified copy or a signed and stamped copy of the original.

Step 2: Get results

• In case the dossier is not complete as prescribed, within 05 working days from the date of receiving the dossier, the standing agency for codes and barcodes shall notify the organization or individual submitting the dossier to amend or supplement;
• In case the dossier is complete and valid and the organization or individual submitting the dossier pays the prescribed fees, within 20 days from the date of receipt of the dossier, the standing agency for codes and barcodes is responsible for issuing the Certificate.

Barcode registration fee

Vietnamese and foreign organizations and individuals operating in the territory of Vietnam submit applications to register to use barcodes, maintain the use of barcodes, or submit applications to confirm the use of barcodes. Foreign barcodes must pay a barcode issuance fee according to the provisions of Article 2 of Circular 232/2016/TT-BTC as follows:

Initial Fee:

• GS1 business code: 1,000,000 VND/code;
• Global location code (GLN): 300,000 VND/code;
• Trade code EAN-8: 300,000 VND/code.

Annual maintenance fee:

• GS type 10 numbers: 500,000 VND;
• GS type 9 numbers: 800,000 VND;
• GS type 8 numbers: 1,500,000 VND;
• GS type 7 numbers: 2,000,000 VND;
• GLN and GTIN: 200,000 VND.
