What are explosive precursors?

Pursuant to Clause 10, Article 3, the Law on Management and Use of Weapons, Explosives and Support Tools 2017 provides a specific definition of explosive precursors. Explosive precursors are dangerous chemicals used directly in the production of explosives. The management of explosive precursors is strictly implemented due to their dangerous nature and impact on national security.

Explosive precursors include many different chemicals, the most common of which is Ammonium nitrate with a content of 98.5% or more. These chemicals have special chemical and physical properties, capable of creating explosive reactions when combined with other substances or under the influence of temperature and pressure. Therefore, the production, transportation, storage and use of explosive precursors require strict technical processes and high safety measures.

In the industrial sector, explosive precursors are mainly used to produce industrial explosives for mining, construction, and demolition activities. In addition, some chemical industries also use explosive precursors as input materials for the production process. However, due to their dangerous nature, the trading and use of explosive precursors must always strictly comply with the provisions of the law.
