According to the provisions of the Law on Intellectual Property, classification of goods and services is a mandatory obligation of the trademark applicant. Goods and services must be classified according to the International Classification of Goods and Services under the Nixon Agreement. If the applicant does not classify or classifies incorrectly, the National Office of Intellectual Property will classify and the applicant must pay a classification fee according to regulations.

From 2025, the International Classification of Goods and Services under the Nixon Agreement (Version 12-2025) will officially take effect. This classification includes 45 groups, including 34 groups of goods (from groups 1 to 34) and 11 groups of services (from groups 35 to 45).
Group 1-34: Including goods from chemicals, paints, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, metals, machinery, tools, equipment, instruments, means of transport, weapons, jewelry, musical instruments, paper, construction materials, furniture, household appliances, textiles, toys, food, beverages, cigarettes…
Group 35-45: Including services such as advertising, business management, finance, construction, telecommunications, transportation, material handling, education, entertainment, science and technology services, food services, medical services, legal services…
